Mars Attaque / Mars Attaque

Bon, après 2 jours de quasi-repos, voici des nouvelles du Mars Attaque 2011. Nous étions au départ pré-classé à la 47e position, et faisions parti d'un pool relevé, avec les Haies de Ced (42e, Québec), les Tux (34e, Québec) et Zazzle (39e, Nouveau-Brunswick). Forts une victoire contre Zazzle et les Haies et une défaite contre Tux (par un seul petit point...), nous finissions la phase de pool au deuxième rang de notre pool.

Ensuite, pour notre match de reclassement, nous avons affronté Scrat (43e, Montréal). Nous perdions à un certain moment 7-2 si ma mémoire est bonne, et notre moral était un peu bas, pour être conservateur. Après un temps mort judicieusement appelé, nous avons réussi a remonter la pente, et nous avons remporté notre partie par 2 points! Une belle demonstration de caractère je dois dire!

Une première journée positive, étant donné que nous étions les "moins bons" selon a théorie inexacte du préclassement, ce qui nous donnait la chance de se battre pour les positions 33 à 40.

Évidemment, la journée d'Ultimate du samedi, comme dans tout bon tournoi qui se respecte, s'est terminée par un souper (un bon poulet simili général tao, arrosé de 3 bonnes bouteilles de vin!), et d'une soirée au pavillon pas très loin au Centre Notre-Dame de Foy. Soirée quand meme raisonable pour ma personne, je tenais quand même à avoir l'air en vie dimanche matin! Mais on est quand même parti dans les derniers, j'ai quand même une réputation à préserver!

Dimanche matin, après un somme de quelques heures, nous voilà de retour sur le turf pour notre confrontation contre Poupix (21e, Montréal, je trouve que c'est un drôle de nom d'équipe). Belle bataille, mais après avoir mené toute la partie, Poupix à réussi à égaliser le pointage, pour ensuite gagner sur le dernier point du match. Une dure défaite à accepter, étant donné que nous menions, mais bon, un bon match pareil. Ensuite, notre prochaine partie ne fût pas la plus plaisante dans ma courte carrière (probablement une des pires, point de vue spirit), contre Wasabi ou Discom (ca ne m'interesse même pas de savoir leur nom...), une défaite de 20-11.

Malgré ce mauvais début de journée, nous avons conclu notre tournoi sur une victoire contre Squall (36e, Baie-des-Chaleurs). Une belle victoire pour finir finalement en 39e position!

En tout et partout, j'ai vraiment aimé mon expérience! Comme je l'espérait, nous avions une excellente équipe, tant au niveau sportif que esprit d'équipe. On a eu beaucoup de plaisir. Et j'ai encore appris à côtoyer d'excellents joueurs d'Ultimate. J'espère répeter l'expérience l'an prochain, question de voir jusqu'où nous pouvons pousser notre équipe!

So, after 2 days trying to get my legs working again, here's some news on the Mars Attaque 2011. We were initialy ranked 47th, and we were part of a strong pool, with the Haies de Ced (42nd, Quebec), Tux (34th, Quebec) and Zazzle (39th, New-Brunswick). After victories against Zazzle et the Haies de Ced and a loss against Tux (by one tiny point), we ended up second in our pool.

After the pool phase, we faced Scrat (43rd, Montreal) in the crossover phase. We were behind 7-2 at one point if I am not mistaken, and we were a bit demoralized, the least to say. After a well timed timeout, we were able to shift to the second gear, and eventually won the match by a two-point margin! A great display of character!

So, the first day's results were not too bad, considering that were supposedly the worst team of our pool, according to the inexact science or pre-rankings. This allowed us to fight for the spots 33 to 40.

Obviously, our first day of the tournament, like all decent tournament, was followed by a nice dinner (an imitation of general tao chicken accompanied by three bottles of good wine!), and a cool party in a building on the Notre-Dame-de-Foy campus. I refrained from drinking too much this time, since I did not want to become a liability on the field on Sunday morning. But we still ended up leaving just when the party was over. I do have a reputation to preserve, after all!

Comes Sunday morning. After a few hours of sleep (more like a cat nap...), we're back on the turf, facing Poupix (21st, Montreal, I find that name to be a real strange one). A good fight, but after having lead all game long, Poupix leveled the score at the end, and scored the last point after the final buzzer. We had a tough time accepting this defeat since we had the lead for pretty much the whole game, but we gave them a good fight anyway. The next game was not the most pleasant one (the worst one spirit-wise actually), against Wasabi or Discom (I don't even care what their name was...), a 20-11 loss.

Notwithstanding our false start for this last day, we concluded our tournament with a vitory over Squall (36th, Baie-des-Chaleurs). A nice victory to finish at the 39th spot!

After the fact, I can honnestly say that I really appreciated my experience! Just like I hoped, we had a very good competitive team with an outstanding team spirit. We had a lot of fun! And I improved my game by playing alongside those great Ultimate players! I hope we will recreate this team next year, if only to know to which level we can play!
