Bon. Ce samedi, suite à une motion de censure déposé contre le gouvernement conservateur, nous sommes *encore* en élections... Au fédéral, on a déjà voté en 2004 (libéraux, minoritaires), 2006 (conservateurs, minoritaires) et 2008 (conservateurs, minoritaires). Et la, faut encore retourner voter parce que les 308 taouins qui sont assis dans la salle du Parlement ne sont pas capable de s'entendre.
Le plus drôle, c'est que les partis d'opposition ont déposé leur motion de censure (outrage au parlement) par rapport au fait que le gouvernement ne voulait pas dévoiler les budgets associés avec certain projets de loi qui étant encore a l'étude au moment de déclencher les élections. C'est quand même bizarre qu'ils aient tous attendu de voir que ce le budget des conservateurs allait possiblement leur donner avant de déposer cette motion bidon.
Donc, pendant les prochains jours, on va entendre essentiellement le même discours (extrait). Et ne faites pas le saut, mais pour endurer tout ça, ça va coûter au canadiens un maigre 270 millions de bidoux (source).
Le sport national des canadiens, ce n'est pas le hockey, mais bien d'aller voter...

So, this Saturday, following a motion of no confidence, elections were triggered, *again*. At the federal level, we have voted in 2004 (liberals, minority), 2006 (conservatives, minority) and 2008 (conservatives, minority). And now, we must vote again because the 308 jerks sitting at the parliament cannot get along together.
The funny thing is, the opposition passed a motion of no confidence (contempt of parliament) based on the fact that the government did not want to detail the budget reserved to the various bills that were being discussed before the writs of election were issued. This is weird, considering the fact that all three parties waited until the government completed its 2011 budget to see if there was anything satisfactory to them.
So, for the next days, we'll hear the same story all over the place (quote). And this is all going to cost us an insignificant 270 million dollars (source).

Mars Attaque / Mars Attaque
Bon, après 2 jours de quasi-repos, voici des nouvelles du Mars Attaque 2011. Nous étions au départ pré-classé à la 47e position, et faisions parti d'un pool relevé, avec les Haies de Ced (42e, Québec), les Tux (34e, Québec) et Zazzle (39e, Nouveau-Brunswick). Forts une victoire contre Zazzle et les Haies et une défaite contre Tux (par un seul petit point...), nous finissions la phase de pool au deuxième rang de notre pool.
Ensuite, pour notre match de reclassement, nous avons affronté Scrat (43e, Montréal). Nous perdions à un certain moment 7-2 si ma mémoire est bonne, et notre moral était un peu bas, pour être conservateur. Après un temps mort judicieusement appelé, nous avons réussi a remonter la pente, et nous avons remporté notre partie par 2 points! Une belle demonstration de caractère je dois dire!
Une première journée positive, étant donné que nous étions les "moins bons" selon a théorie inexacte du préclassement, ce qui nous donnait la chance de se battre pour les positions 33 à 40.
Évidemment, la journée d'Ultimate du samedi, comme dans tout bon tournoi qui se respecte, s'est terminée par un souper (un bon poulet simili général tao, arrosé de 3 bonnes bouteilles de vin!), et d'une soirée au pavillon pas très loin au Centre Notre-Dame de Foy. Soirée quand meme raisonable pour ma personne, je tenais quand même à avoir l'air en vie dimanche matin! Mais on est quand même parti dans les derniers, j'ai quand même une réputation à préserver!
Dimanche matin, après un somme de quelques heures, nous voilà de retour sur le turf pour notre confrontation contre Poupix (21e, Montréal, je trouve que c'est un drôle de nom d'équipe). Belle bataille, mais après avoir mené toute la partie, Poupix à réussi à égaliser le pointage, pour ensuite gagner sur le dernier point du match. Une dure défaite à accepter, étant donné que nous menions, mais bon, un bon match pareil. Ensuite, notre prochaine partie ne fût pas la plus plaisante dans ma courte carrière (probablement une des pires, point de vue spirit), contre Wasabi ou Discom (ca ne m'interesse même pas de savoir leur nom...), une défaite de 20-11.
Malgré ce mauvais début de journée, nous avons conclu notre tournoi sur une victoire contre Squall (36e, Baie-des-Chaleurs). Une belle victoire pour finir finalement en 39e position!
En tout et partout, j'ai vraiment aimé mon expérience! Comme je l'espérait, nous avions une excellente équipe, tant au niveau sportif que esprit d'équipe. On a eu beaucoup de plaisir. Et j'ai encore appris à côtoyer d'excellents joueurs d'Ultimate. J'espère répeter l'expérience l'an prochain, question de voir jusqu'où nous pouvons pousser notre équipe!

So, after 2 days trying to get my legs working again, here's some news on the Mars Attaque 2011. We were initialy ranked 47th, and we were part of a strong pool, with the Haies de Ced (42nd, Quebec), Tux (34th, Quebec) and Zazzle (39th, New-Brunswick). After victories against Zazzle et the Haies de Ced and a loss against Tux (by one tiny point), we ended up second in our pool.
After the pool phase, we faced Scrat (43rd, Montreal) in the crossover phase. We were behind 7-2 at one point if I am not mistaken, and we were a bit demoralized, the least to say. After a well timed timeout, we were able to shift to the second gear, and eventually won the match by a two-point margin! A great display of character!
So, the first day's results were not too bad, considering that were supposedly the worst team of our pool, according to the inexact science or pre-rankings. This allowed us to fight for the spots 33 to 40.
Obviously, our first day of the tournament, like all decent tournament, was followed by a nice dinner (an imitation of general tao chicken accompanied by three bottles of good wine!), and a cool party in a building on the Notre-Dame-de-Foy campus. I refrained from drinking too much this time, since I did not want to become a liability on the field on Sunday morning. But we still ended up leaving just when the party was over. I do have a reputation to preserve, after all!
Comes Sunday morning. After a few hours of sleep (more like a cat nap...), we're back on the turf, facing Poupix (21st, Montreal, I find that name to be a real strange one). A good fight, but after having lead all game long, Poupix leveled the score at the end, and scored the last point after the final buzzer. We had a tough time accepting this defeat since we had the lead for pretty much the whole game, but we gave them a good fight anyway. The next game was not the most pleasant one (the worst one spirit-wise actually), against Wasabi or Discom (I don't even care what their name was...), a 20-11 loss.
Notwithstanding our false start for this last day, we concluded our tournament with a vitory over Squall (36th, Baie-des-Chaleurs). A nice victory to finish at the 39th spot!
After the fact, I can honnestly say that I really appreciated my experience! Just like I hoped, we had a very good competitive team with an outstanding team spirit. We had a lot of fun! And I improved my game by playing alongside those great Ultimate players! I hope we will recreate this team next year, if only to know to which level we can play!

La religion dans les institutions publiques / Religion in public institutions
Ceux qui suivent un tant soit peu l'actualité au Québec ont déjà entendu parlé de Jean Tremblay, maire de Saguenay, qui récite une prière avant chaque conseil municipal. Réciter est un bien grand mot dans ce cas-ci, à mon humble avis. Le mot "imposer" serait probablement plus approprié, puisque certains membres du conseil municipal (Alain Simoneau, qui a porté plainte, ce qui a déclenché un procès) ne sont pas tellement intéressés à faire une prière.
Je ne peux pas concevoir qu'on impose encore en 2011 quoi que ce soit de religieux à n'importe qui, que ce soit des catholiques, musulmans, bouddhistes ou autre truc en -iste (dentiste, gaz de schiste...). Si c'était un musulman qui était maire de la ville, est-ce que les gens de là-bas toléreraient qu'il oblige tout le monde à faire un prière à genoux face vers la Mecque? Sûrement que oui...
À mon avis, toutes les institutions publiques devraient être laïques, incluant les conseils municipaux. En fait, au point de vue légal, tout entité publique doit respecter le principe de laïcité, si je ne me trompe pas. Des gens se sont battus pour séparer l'Église et l'État, faisons en sorte de ne pas les mélanger à nouveau. Si tu veux faire une prière, fait-la pour toi, dans ta tête, avec toi-même; ne l'impose pas aux autres, qui choisisse soit d'être athé, soit une autre religion.

Those who follow Quebec's daily news have most probably heard of Jean Tremblay, Saguenay's mayor, who says a prayer before each council session. The right way to say this, in my humble opinion, would be to impose the prayer, since some council members (Alain Simoneau, who filed a lawsuit against the mayor, which triggered a trial) do not agree with the idea of saying a prayer.
I cannot believe that in 2011, some people are still forcing their religious beliefs onto others, be it catholics, muslims, buddhists or any other religion follower. If a muslim was mayor of Saguenay, I wonder if the locals would agree with him forcing other council members to kneel down facing Mecca and praying to whatever god he wants. Most probably...
I believe that all public institutions should be secular, including city councils. If I am not mistaken, it is specified in the law that all public institutions must be secular. People fought to separate the Church and the State, lets not merge them again. If you want to say a prayer, do it in your head, for yourself. Do not force it onto others who chose not to believe in a religion, or a different one.

Premier message / First post
Je démarre ce blog :) Il traitera de ce qui me passe par la tête au moment d'écrire un message, mais il est fort probable que ça parle beaucoup de trucs geek (jeux, programmation, vous devinez..), et du sport (oui, je suis un geek qui fait du sport).
Je profite de ce premier message pour parler de mon sport fétiche ces temps-ci: le Ultimate Frisbee (article Wikipedia). Je vais surement en parler plus en détails un autre jour, mais pour l'instant, je vais juste mentionner que le plus gros tournoi de la province de Québec (et du Canada apparament) aura lieu cette fin de semaine. J'attends ce moment depuis longtemps, surtout depuis que notre équipe est formée (une très bonne équipe dans les faits). Je ferai parti d'une équipe quand même compétitive, donc j'anticipe beaucoup de plaisir à compétitionner pour avoir une bonne position finale. Et je suis certain qu'on sera compétitifs aussi lors de la fête le samedi soir! J'ose espérer que je serai en forme dimanche matin pour notre première partie..
Ajout: Suite à une bonne suggestion de la part d'une amie, j'ai décidé de faire mon blog en bilingue (!). Ca me donne l'occasion de ne pas perdre mon français écrit (qui est de moins en moins naturel quand j'écris...), et pour ceux qui ont plus de difficultés en anglais, ca va être moins pénible à lire!

I'm starting out a new blog, my first one ;) It will be about just anything that goes into my mind at the moment I decide to add a new message, but my guess is that there will be many geeky stuff (games, programming, you know, geek stuff) and sport stuff (yeah, I'm a geek who plays a lot of sports).
I will use this first post to talk about my most favorite sport at the moment: Ultimate Frisbee (Wikipedia article). I will most certainly talk about this later on, but for now, I'll just mention that the biggest indoor tournament in the province of Quebec (and of Canada I've heard, I have yet to see a proof of this) will be held this weekend. I've been waiting for this even for a while now, even more since we've built our team (and a pretty good one I will add). I will be part of a good competitive team, so I know we'll have plenty of fun ahead playing a good competitve game. And I'm pretty sure we'll be competitive as well during the party on saturday night! I guess this time I'll try to be in a decent shape on sunday morning for the first game..
Edit: I decided to follow a good advice that was shared by a friend, so I'll make this blog a bilingual one. It will allow me to keep writing in french (it is becoming less natural nowadays), and those who have some difficulties reading english will find it easier to read the posts!
